Dimash Qudaibergen celebrated his 30th birthday on May 24th on stage at the large Beşiktaş Stadium in Istanbul. The artist’s solo concert gathered thousands of fans, numerous friends, and became a grand celebration for everyone.

Dimash’s team from China, with whom the Kazakh musician has been collaborating for almost 8 years, was responsible for the artist’s image at the anniversary show. After the concert, manager Zhuang Yan, stylist Rita, and makeup artist and hairstylist Archie shared their memories of working with Dimash and the specifics of creating the artist’s style with the DimashNews editorial team.

Dimash and I met for the first time on December 24, 2016. It was the first time he came to Beijing. After meeting him at the airport, we immediately got to work. At that moment we didn’t know each other at all and couldn’t even communicate directly, there was no time to get close. However, he is very intelligent, energetic, easy to work with and after we worked tirelessly for a whole day, everything went exceptionally well.

Time flies. It has been almost eight years now. From our initial attempts to understand each other at the first meeting to today, we have reached a point where we can now read each other’s minds.

Why do I enjoy working with him? I think anyone would easily find the answer just by seeing him start to sing on stage. However, when it comes to a long-term partnership, something more is needed. The saying fits best here: “At first, talent attracts, but ultimately, character captivates.”

Dimash’s talents are obvious to everyone and don’t need to be spoken of. Meanwhile, he is also a kind-hearted person who constantly shows great love. He wishes for the world to be full of love in every corner. This desire has been reflected in his compositions more than once.

What especially captivates is how deeply he loves his country. For example, during many important interviews in China, he specifically requested to be interviewed in Kazakh. While learning about the cultures of different countries, he often talked about Kazakh culture, food, and beautiful landscapes. Many of us learned about the history and culture of Kazakhstan from him. He is an excellent cultural ambassador, introducing the world to Kazakh culture. Thanks to him, many people in China have started learning Kazakh, singing Kazakh songs, and traveling to Kazakhstan.

Moreover, he is very involved in charity work. Some instances have been reported, some shared by others, but most often he did this without leaving his name, so much so that even the recipient did not know it was from him. We appreciate and cherish his great talents and character, as well as his sincerity and kindness. This is an important reason why we continue to work as a team.

Our relationship is simple and casual. We are not only business partners – the artist and his manager – but also close friends. Now we are more like a family in one team, including Dimash and me, his makeup artist Archie, stylist Rita, photographer Fan Li and others.

We are so happy to have been a part of his 30th anniversary concert in Turkiye and to have been completely in charge of his image. We are so grateful for his trust and the opportunity to be together for this beautiful and unforgettable celebration. All team members have excellent knowledge of their professions and excellent aesthetic taste. As is customary in our team, they are constantly studying the world’s fashion trends. Most importantly, they know Dimash perfectly well, his peculiarities and preferences. They also understand and respect the culture and beliefs of different countries enough to create a look that suits him.

We have a working group. Even when we are not working, we still share ideas and creative thoughts that might suit Dimash. During every project over the years, whether the event was big or small, we matched him with costumes, hairstyles and style depending on the nature of the event, the stage design, the meaning of the songs, etc. We also asked each other’s opinions.

Every time I have contacted them with any requests or ideas, they have always provided professional feedback in a timely manner. They are truly a pleasure to work with. The best part is that their intelligence and full attention to Dimash is much more than the work of a makeup artist and stylist, so now we have established trust and a strong bond in our team.

Concert style and ordinary image are completely different things. In short, when Dimash sings and dances on stage, his hair should remain neat and his stage makeup should be durable. Costumes should be comfortable during the artist’s movements and easy to change. All styling should meet the needs of the different segments of the performance.

In just three minutes of dressing, we have to have time to correct the image, change clothes, put on headphones, and give the artist a drink and a rest. We have to know him well enough to take care of all the details. We often analyze and determine what can be improved, looking for what suits Dimash better. We hope that through our work we manage to show the best image of the artist, and Dimash can perform on stage with ease and comfort.

Makeup and hair artist Archie

On May 24, 2024, a celebratory concert was held in Istanbul to mark Dimash’s 30th birthday. This is a very significant and important milestone for him, ushering him into a new era in his creative journey. The theme of the total look was radiance and luxury, matching his high standards of musical quality.

The artist looks natural and fresh, without any additional elements; we emphasize his outstanding facial features to highlight his contours. His hairstyle is slightly curled in the middle, which complements his nobility and elegance. We used several sparkling diamond chains to give the hairstyle a more three-dimensional look. When the light moves, the diamonds shine brightly like stars. This adds more energy to the atmosphere. Immersed in his extraordinary performance, Dimash shone with his entire presence on the stage of the huge stadium.

Stylist Rita

First of all, I really appreciate the trust from Dimash and his team, thank you for the invitation to work together and witness an unforgettable moment – the 30th anniversary concert in Istanbul.

After studying the songs and the background of the performance, searching for information about Istanbul in Turkiye, I had ideas for four different styles. The general requirements of the performance have to be considered, namely how to express and harmonize the artistic concept of the different songs, how to harmonize with the stage design, lights and dances, and how to provide the audience with a pleasant visual experience. Stylists have a hard time, because all these detailed requirements have to be detailed and fulfilled.

Istanbul is a picturesque and romantic Mediterranean city. I was inspired by my longing for the sea and the beautiful sky. After discussing with Dimash’s manager, we first decided on the color scheme and structural pattern of the clothes. Then we compared and chose carefully, considering various aspects. The resulting fabrics chosen were jacquard, lace, silk, satin, voluminous embroidery, mesh, water texture fabric and others. Even the invisible linings were full of specialized designs.

The task is to make Dimash feel comfortable on stage, to dance and move easily. Taking into account that only three minutes are allotted for changing clothes, including the time of getting down from the stage to the dressing room, changing the costume for a new set (shoes, pants, shirt, jacket, microphone monitor, correcting the hairstyle, etc.), we need to make the whole process comfortable.

We also wanted to take into account the preferences of the audience. Within the geography of the concert, especially considering that it is Dimash’s 30th birthday, we decided to show him as a noble, elegant, mesmerizing singer.

All the tailoring and production work was done by myself and a team of tailors. A lot of hand and delicate work was done to bring to life the envisioned looks for the concert.

We are honored to be a part of this project. When we hear the applause from the audience, we are proud to be part of the team and to work together again with Dimash to create an evening that belongs to him.
