Dimash Qudaibergen’s Music Reality Show Voice Beyond Horizon Reaches Its Midpoint

The music competition Voice Beyond Horizon, conceived and executive produced by Kazakhstan’s People’s Artist Dimash Qudaibergen, has reached the halfway mark, with six out of twelve episodes now released. Having introduced global audiences to the Turkestan and Mangystau regions, the project is now heading toward Almaty.

Having crossed its midpoint, the show continues to hold viewers’ attention not only through the contestants’ masterfully performed vocal numbers. The intrigue is sustained by unconventional production approaches, with the format of on-stage interaction evolving from episode to episode. Meanwhile, large-scale location filming across Kazakhstan’s most stunning landscapes keeps audiences engaged even between performances.

6 Consecutive Wins in Television Ratings

The project’s chief director, Luo Xinxing, shared key distinctions that set the show apart from the conventional “rehearsal – competition – elimination” cycle typical of music contests in recent years.

He noted that Voice Beyond Horizon has taken a completely different path, allowing participants and producers to shape music based on inspiration gained through cultural exploration across Kazakhstan. According to him, the narrative structure,“gather inspiration first, then compete”, enables audiences to see not a rehearsed “show,” but an improvised dialogue that transcends linguistic and national boundaries.

Speaking about the production process, Luo emphasized that Voice Beyond Horizon introduces a new business model: “overseas investment + Chinese production + global exchange.” This approach breaks stereotypes, transforming cultural collaboration from a transactional relationship into a true partnership.

Broadcaster Hunan TV also reported that Voice Beyond Horizon has been included in Mango TV’s list of representative “localized co-creation” IPs. With Kazakhstan as its foundation, the program is set to expand into Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and other Central Asian countries, connecting Silk Road nodes across Central Asia, the Middle East, and Africa to form a truly “reliable Silk Road.”

More Than 206 Trending Topics Across the Internet

Luo Xinxing also revealed that as Hunan TV’s first overseas production, the team had to anticipate and overcome a number of significant challenges.

First, the high-intensity cross-border production cycle. Filming lasted 22 days, covering four cities in Kazakhstan and multiple landmarks across six regions. The core crew consisted of 60 members, supported by an additional 100-person logistics team responsible for navigating monuments, steppes, lakes, and other locations—ensuring both the participants’ travel and the continuous development of performance concepts “on the move.”

Second, stage construction and sound control in non-standard environments. Whether building live performance stages on a small island in the middle of a lake, along the Caspian Sea coast, or beneath snow-covered mountains, the team had to ensure that audio quality would not be affected by weather or environmental conditions. This required the development of location-specific technical solutions and reliable emergency response plans.

Finally, the production required deep cultural integration on site. The team had to coordinate communication across multiple languages, respect local customs, and transform ideas into stage performances within tight timeframes, ensuring that cultural exchange could be truly felt, not merely “captured.”

👍 Recommended by Government Institutions

Chinese embassies, affiliated institutions, and media outlets from five countries along the Silk Road—including Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Italy, Kyrgyzstan, and Serbia—have repeatedly promoted the show on their official social media platforms, describing it as “highly recommended.”

Among them, the Embassy of Malaysia in China published a total of six pieces of content related to the program across platforms such as Weibo and Kuaishou, generating sustained attention. The Embassy of Kazakhstan in China also shared program-related photos and articles on its official Weibo page and public accounts.

President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also sent a letter recognizing the program’s positive contribution to strengthening friendship between the two countries.

✈ Tourism Boom: Viewers Want to Visit Filming Locations

“As a ‘must-visit destination’ in Kazakhstan, Bozzhyra with its 360-degree panoramic views left an unprecedented visual impression on the singers. The white rock formation, known locally as ‘the ship,’ rises alone in the desert like an ancient vessel stranded on a dried seabed. Standing among the cliffs, the singers exclaimed: ‘Facing this wind-carved natural sculpture, you suddenly realize that life itself is an endless desert—and all we need is the freedom to breathe.’”

“I can’t wait to travel to Aktau, where every photo will be a masterpiece. I kept taking screenshots while watching: I simply couldn’t stop. I really want to film there! The Bozzhyra Canyon, a 300-million-year-old ‘ocean world,’ feels like stepping onto the surface of the Moon – a magical, sci-fi-like spectacle. My favorite place is the beach in Aktau, where the sky and sea merge into one, the breeze gently touches your face, and the sound of waves is barely audible. Having never seen the sea before, I already feel a longing for it.”

“The Silk Road hub of Aktau offers a romantic blend—half sea, half desert. The name ‘Aktau’ means ‘white mountain’ in Kazakh. Where Cretaceous cliffs shape a unique horizon, the azure Caspian Sea meets vast desert expanses. It is not only a shining pearl of the Caspian coast, but also a living textbook of geology and history spread across the Eurasian continent.”

“Inspired by reflections in museums, the wild nature of deserts and canyons, and impressions of modern ports, the eight singers faced the main challenge of the episode for the first time abandoning solo performances to present the ‘beauty of fusion’ in duets. After gathering material, four new pairs began their first collaborative work in the rehearsal room. This is not just a clash of voices, but a fusion of cultures and styles.”
