On May 18, the renowned dombra duo Temirlan & Yernat, along with young instrumentalist Mansur Qudaibergen, delivered a spectacular musical evening at the Kazakhstan Central Concert Hall in Astana.
Yernat Nauryz and Temirlan Olzhabay, winners of numerous international competitions and recipients of the State “Daryn” Youth Award, painted vivid musical scenes with Kazakhstan’s most beloved national instrument – the dombyra – taking the audience on a journey through history from ancient times to the present day.
Throughout the evening, the audience enjoyed a rich program featuring classical pieces, traditional Kazakh kyuis, and original compositions. The setlist included: “Bastau,” “Vivaldi,” Jackson Tribute, “Zhumyr Qylysh,” “Amanat,” “Erke Sylkym” Tribute, “Ake,” “The Path,” “Asia Mix,” and “Alem.”
The concert culminated in a thrilling kyui tartys (musical duel), where 25 additional dombra players from the Murager Kazakh Folk Instruments Ensemble joined Temirlan and Yernat on stage.
Mansur Qudaibergen, a multi-instrumentalist, began his performance with a melody by Renat Gaissin, followed by instrumental interpretations of songs from the repertoire of his older brother, Dimash Qudaibergen.
For the first time on stage, Dimash’s original song “When I’ve Got You” was presented with a powerful electric guitar arrangement, accompanied by backing vocals from Zarina Bozhakova, Rasul Usmanov, and Diana Turzhanova.
Mansur also performed his own piano composition “Together”, and later, two fan-favorite Dimash songs, “Makhabbat ber magan” and “Umytylmas kün”, which turned into a heartfelt sing-along with the audience.
Mansur brought out the dombra at the end of the night, joining Yernat and Temirlan for an electrifying performance of the iconic kyui “Adai,” which brought the concert hall to life.
Throughout the concert, stunning choreographic performances by the renowned dance groups Birlik and Gulder added an extra layer of beauty to the show.
The evening also featured a special appearance by long-time friend and co-creator Olzhas Qurmanbek, a qobyz player, who performed his version of the soundtrack from the cult film “Gladiator.” Together with Yernat and Temirlan, he also presented their joint piece “Zaman.”
The vocal portion of the concert was enhanced by the celebrated singer and Grand Prix winner of the “Slavianski Bazaar 2021”, Rukhiya Baidukenova, who wowed the audience with “All By Myself” and “Makhabbat Garysh.”
A standout moment was the collaboration between the dombra duo and their close friend, sound producer Yerlan Bekchurin. Their performance of “Kausar Sezim”, featuring two dombyras and keys, filled the hall with mesmerizing sound.
The event was attended by Kazakhstan’s Minister of Culture and Information Aida Balayeva, People’s Artist of Kazakhstan Dimash Qudaibergen, and distinguished cultural figures Renat Gaissin, Kanat and Svetlana Aitbayev, highlighting the event’s high artistic level and the importance of supporting young talents on both national and professional stages.
This unique musical evening, organized by the DimashAli Creative Center, is part of a continuing series – with the next concert and “D and Dears” fan meeting scheduled for May 26.
