On November 25, 22-year-old Pablo Romero from Chillán, a city in southern Chile, appeared on the screens of the country’s largest TV channel, TVN, in the show “My Name Is.” His performance was dedicated to Kazakh singer Dimash Qudaibergen.
Pablo’s journey to the big stage began less than a year ago when he first performed as Dimash in a local competition. Against all odds, he secured 2nd place. Later, he participated in another imitator contest in the city of Los Angeles, earning 3rd place while competing against highly experienced performers. It was during this time that Dimash’s fans, known as Dears, took notice of Pablo’s talent.
One curious Dear, captivated by his performance, introduced Pablo to the local Dears team, which works to promote Dimash’s music in Chile. Their support, combined with Pablo’s voice, helped bring recognition to the Kazakh artist’s work, even in the most remote parts of the country.
Aspiring to reach new heights, Pablo applied for the casting of the popular show “My Name Is.” On August 7, he traveled to Santiago for the auditions, where around a thousand participants gathered. After waiting for 10 hours, he finally auditioned, and on November 8, he received the news that he had been selected as one of the 80 finalists.
His performance on November 25 marked the culmination of his long journey. On the stage of TVN, before a strict panel of judges and millions of viewers, Pablo delivered a stunning rendition of “S.O.S d’un terrien en détresse,” showcasing his profound respect for Dimash’s artistry.
