On September 8, the grand opening ceremony of the 5th World Nomad Games took place in Astana, where more than 2,500 athletes will compete in traditional ethnic sports to demonstrate their strength.
The World Nomad Games were previously held in Kyrgyzstan in 2014, 2016, and 2018, in Turkey in 2022, and in 2024, Kazakhstan’s capital will host participants from almost 90 countries. The Games have been recognized as part of UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The opening ceremony was held at the “Astana Arena.” A vibrant parade of participating teams, performances by artistic groups, and renowned performers created an atmosphere of energy and excitement for the athletes and guests, symbolizing unity and the pursuit of friendship among nations.
Kazakhstan’s People’s Artist, Dimash Qusaibergen, along with the country’s top dance ensembles, performed the song “Kieli Meken.” The composition was written by Kazakh composer Yerbolat Kudaibergen, with lyrics by Kanat Aitbayev, head of the DimashAli Creative Center.
The powerful blend of rock and ethnic music filled the stadium with a sense of unwavering strength and resilience. The lyrics, celebrating the land and its people, conveyed love and immense pride, reminding everyone of the sacred duty to honor one’s roots and ancestors.
