On July 6, a unique concert featuring three masters of vocal art from Spain, Latvia, and Kazakhstan was held in the capital of Vietnam. Celebrating the second anniversary of the Ho Guom Opera House, the event brought together world-renowned voices, Plácido Domingo, Kristine Opolais, and Dimash Qudaibergen, accompanied by the Vietnam Sun Symphony Orchestra under the baton of French-American conductor Olivier Ochanine.
Dimash Qudaibergen opened the concert with a powerful rendition of “SOS d’un terrien en détresse.”
To mark this special occasion, the stage showcased not only classical opera and romance pieces but also crossover performances highlighting the wide possibilities of music. The audience warmly received celebrated classical works by composers such as Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini, Antonín Dvořák, Gerónimo Giménez, and Franz Lehár, performed by Plácido Domingo and Kristine Opolais.
A prominent figure of neoclassical music and a master of blending styles and genres, Dimash Qudaibergen performed songs in French, English, Chinese, and Kazakh.
The program included classical-style songs such as SOS d’un terrien en détresse (Michel Berger, Luc Plamondon) and Autumn Strong (Kōji Tamaki, Daryl Yao), as well as lyrical pieces by Kazakh composers like Give Me Love (Aigul Bazhanova, Munaydar Baimolda) and Angel Love (Rinat Gaissin, Kalkaman Sarin, Lin Wei Weilim). He also performed the upbeat track Weekend (Burak Yeter, Allan Eshuijs, Nino Lucarelli) on the Ho Guom Opera stage.
A special surprise for the audience was Dimash’s performance of the iconic song Hymne à l’amour, which he performed for the first time at the recently held 27th Shanghai International Film Festival in China.
A highlight of the evening, and its emotional peak, was a joint performance by Plácido Domingo, Kristine Opolais, and Dimash Qudaibergen. Their rendition of O sole mio, the iconic Neapolitan song written in 1898 by Giovanni Capurro and Eduardo di Capua and beloved worldwide, became the brightest star of “A Night with the Stars,” uniting generations on one stage.
“To everyone who’s made it to Ho Guom Opera, thank you for your love. And to all the Vietnamese Dears who couldn’t attend – I feel you with me every step. Thank you for all the support and love. And I hope to come back to Vietnam and sing to all you Dears”.
