On December 18, International Migrants Day, Dimash Qudaibergen, Global Ambassador of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the UN migration agency, addressed the global community:

“Today, on the occasion of International Migrants Day, which is celebrated every year around the world, it is a great honor for me to share my story as a Global Goodwill Ambassador of the IOM.

My story began in Kazakhstan, where music took a central place in my life and became a part of my journey. Traveling around the world, I realized more and more: every person moving to a new country brings their culture, traditions, and inspiration, enriching our world.

Migration opens new paths. People bring ideas, knowledge, and creativity, creating opportunities for growth and sharing what makes them unique. This is how our shared cultural future is born.

When I perform in different countries and see audiences from all corners of the world, I feel how their journeys connect. Music unites us, but behind this unity are human paths filled with hope and the pursuit of light.

Today, on International Migrants Day, I want to say: every journey is a great story. Thank you to everyone who carries the warmth of home and shares it with the world.”

International Migrants Day has been observed on December 18 since 2000, following a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly. This date marks December 18, 1990, when the UN General Assembly adopted the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families.

The 2025 theme, “My contribution to culture and development matters,” highlights how human mobility drives progress and strengthens connections between communities.

Migration is one of the defining forces of our century. It plays a crucial role in addressing labor shortages, fostering innovation, and supporting demographic sustainability.

Effective migration policies enable migrants to achieve stability, support their families, and build new futures, while helping communities remain resilient.
