At the ongoing Summer Olympics in Paris, Bulgarian rhythmic gymnast Boryana Kaleyn performs her club routine to the composition “SOS d’un terrien en détresse” sung by Dimash Qudaibergen.

A multiple-time Bulgarian champion and a frequent medalist and winner at European Championships, Boryana Kaleyn presents her Olympic program in France with an innovative musical accompaniment: all four of her routines are compiled into one continuous narrative – the end of one routine seamlessly leads into the beginning of the next. Each performance is a fragment of Boryana’s life story, recounting the victories and challenges she has faced throughout her athletic career.

The entire program flows as a single story – the final pose of each routine serves as the starting position for the next, and the last note of one piece of music smoothly transitions into the next performance. The club routine tells the story of the inevitable failures and challenges every athlete faces, as well as the doubts and anxieties that are overcome through inner strength, determination, and faith.

The internal battles depicted by Boryana resonate beautifully with the music, lyrics, and voice of Dimash. In “SOS d’un terrien en détresse,” the character seems to search for answers to questions like, “Is my effort worth it? Will I succeed in my struggle?” The chosen composition, filled with power and determination, perfectly reflects the hardships and doubts that an athlete overcomes throughout their career.
