On May 1 in Oviedo, Spain, rhythmic gymnast Itziar Ordóñez Alonso, performing a routine set to a composition performed by Dimash Qudaibergen, won a silver medal in the hoop event at the international Liga de las Estrellas tournament and has also previously placed at other international competitions.
The athlete competed with all four apparatuses – hoop, ball, ribbon, and clubs. The event featured top teams, and performances were observed by representatives of the Spanish national team.
Itziar Ordóñez Alonso represents the “La Corredoria” Rhythmic Gymnastics Club and competes at various levels, including national championships, international tournaments, and Spain’s top-tier Iberdrola League.
This season, she performs her hoop routine to “SOS” by Dimash Qudaibergen. The music was selected by her coach, Ana Isabel Cortes Roces, who first heard the piece at a competition in Valencia. She later chose Dimash’s version as the best fit for the artistic concept of the routine.
Earlier, the gymnast also won silver at the 14th Ourense A Provincia Termal International Tournament held on April 4.
The Oviedo City Council and the Spanish Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation have published materials mentioning Dimash and linking to his YouTube channel. Spanish media have also featured an interview explaining the choice of music and how coach Ana Isabel Cortes Roces discovered Dimash’s work.
