The South African fan club of Dimash Qudaibergen (DQSAFC) held a memorable gathering at the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Pretoria, where they were warmly welcomed by Ambassador Yerkin Akhinzhanov. In a heartfelt atmosphere, the guests discussed Dimash’s artistry, Kazakhstan’s cultural traditions, and opportunities for collaboration between the two countries.
From the very first moments, the meeting felt more like a reunion of kindred spirits rather than a formal event. Fans were welcomed not as guests, but as fellow enthusiasts united by their love for Dimash and their respect for Kazakhstan. As a token of cultural exchange, the fan club presented the ambassador with a photo collage featuring South African fans who had attended Dimash’s concerts around the world.
The gathering was not limited to South African fans – supporters from New York also joined, further emphasizing the global reach of Dimash’s influence.
During the conversation, Ambassador Akhinzhanov shared insights into Kazakhstan’s rich history, its traditions of hospitality, and its deep-rooted musical heritage. Fans listened intently as he spoke about the nomadic culture, the national instrument, the dombra, and how Dimash’s music beautifully reflects the soul of Kazakhstan.
The discussion was also filled with lighthearted moments. Fan club members recalled their trip to Astana, where they had the opportunity to try kumys, a traditional fermented mare’s milk. The ambassador noted that this ancient drink has long been valued for its healing properties and is still used for medicinal purposes today.
One of the key topics of the meeting was the development of cultural collaboration. The fan club proposed participating in the celebration of Nauryz in South Africa, introducing Kazakh music to local schools, and engaging in joint ballet productions. A particularly promising idea was a collaboration between Joburg Ballet and Astana Ballet, with South African artists showing great interest in staging a performance set to Dimash’s music.
However, the ultimate dream of the fans remains bringing Dimash to South Africa for a concert. This project was originally initiated by one of the most devoted members of the fan club, Salome, who, sadly, has passed away. In her honor, the fan club is determined to resume discussions with event organizers to turn this dream into reality.
“Dimash once said: “Music is a universal language that speaks to the soul.”
This visit was living proof of that.We extend our deepest gratitude to Ambassador Yerkin Akhinzhanov, First Secretary Anuar Kenzhetayev, and the entire Kazakh Embassy in South Africa for their hospitality, generosity, and belief in the power of cultural exchange.
This is just the beginning. Together, we will continue to support Dimash, celebrate Kazakhstan’s incredible heritage, and introduce his music to new audiences across South Africa and beyond”, shared the fan club members.
